چکیده

Purpose Respiratory motion during positron emission tomography (PET) scans can be a major detriment to image quality in oncological imaging. The impact of on lesion quantification and detectability assessed using phantoms with realistic anatomy representation modeling. In this work, we develop an anthropomorphic phantom for PET imaging that combines anatomic fidelity breathing mechanism deformable lungs. Methods We start from previously developed anatomically accurate but static human torso, add elastic lungs highly controllable actuation which replicates the physics breathing. space outside is filled radioactive water solution. To maintain anatomical accuracy gamma ray attenuation all mechanisms actuators are positioned compartment. produce custom respiratory waveforms rates up 25 breaths per minute tidal volumes 1200 mL. Results Several tests were performed validate performance assembly, was given execute. All parts demonstrated expected performance. Force requirements not exceeded no leaks detected, although continued use required evaluate wear. determined within reasonable range. Conclusions full mechanical design described paper, as well software application graphical user interface plan visualize patterns. Both available online open source files. will facilitate future work evaluating clinical practice.

Simulating effects of brain atrophy in longitudinal PET imaging with an anthropomorphic brain phantom

In longitudinal positron emission tomography (PET), the presence of volumetric changes over time can lead to an overestimation or underestimation of the true changes in the quantified PET signal due to the partial volume effect (PVE) introduced by the limited spatial resolution of existing PET cameras and reconstruction algorithms. Here, a 3D-printed anthropomorphic brain phantom with attachabl...

Design, Construction and Evaluation of an Anthropomorphic Head Phantom for Assessment of Image Distortion in Stereotactic Radiosurgery Planning Systems

Introduction: In recent years, the use of magnetic resonance (MR) images in radiation treatment planning has drawn considerable attention. However, although the extent of a tumor can be determined in great detail on MR images, the geometric accuracy of these images is limited by distortions stemming from the inhomogeneity of the static background magnetic field, the nonlineari...

Design of an Anthropomorphic Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy Quality Assurance Phantom

The dynamic nature of IMRT delivery poses unique problems relating to the accurate and reproducible quality assurance of dose delivery. The usefulness of point detectors is limited to static fields and regions within low dose-gradients for treatment verification. However, dose distributions generated in intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) often have complex shapes with high dose gradie...
